Can I update user roles in Clever or ClassLink?

easyCBM User Types

User types in easyCBM are managed by your district’s Clever or ClassLink administrator. There are four user levels:

LevelTypeDescription
4Head AdministratorAll Clever/ClassLink Administrators are automatically this level
3District AdministratorA Staff user assigned to all schools in the district (a School = an easyCBM Building)
2Building AdministratorA Staff user assigned to some, but not all, schools/buildings
1TeacherA standard teacher account

Teachers can be promoted to a Level 2 or Level 3 user by your Clever or ClassLink administrator.

How to promote a teacher to an administrator in Clever

  1. Use Clever Custom Data to create a staff account.
  2. Create the staff account using the same ID as the existing teacher account, so the teacher and staff accounts stay linked.
  3. Update your sharing permissions with easyCBM so the new staff account is captured.

Once this is done, the user can toggle between their teacher and staff account the next time they log into Clever.

How to promote a teacher to an administrator in ClassLink

  1. Confirm your ClassLink connection type. easyCBM integrates with ClassLink via OneRoster/Roster Server
  2. Add or update the admin role in your roster feed.
  • If your district manages users via a CSV export/import in ClassLink Management Console, add a row (or edit the existing row) for the user with the appropriate admin role/metadata field so it maps to easyCBM’s Building or District Admin type.
  • If a single ClassLink identity can’t hold both a “teacher” and “admin” OneRoster role at once, a separate admin record using the same unique ID as the teacher account may be required, so easyCBM links the two.

3. Verify the sync picks up the change. ClassLink rostering runs on a scheduled sync; confirm with your ClassLink admin when the next sync will run.
